SUN WOOD HOUSE 1
The brief for this project was to provide a modern and spacious 3-4 bedroom house. This was a self-build project and had to be simple and economic to construct as the clients had not built anything before. The project was constructed traditionally to ensure the availability of skilled subcontractors. The budget for the building was low and the simple design enabled this parameter to be met.
The house was located on a flat plateau by the side of an existing pond. Maximum advantage was taken of the views to this pond and to the scenic hillside beyond. Constant views of the pond and hills were made possible by the design of the house.
The external appearance of the building was designed to resemble a traditional barn house, which was commonly found in the area. Internally, the house appeared modern and warm with the use of natural materials throughout.
The clients for the project were extremely happy with the finished result and since completion have contracted the practice to design their next house which is to be considerably bigger and will feature an integral double garage and a games room.
