BLA where approached by Rochdale City Council to design a building for Shopmobility as part of their city centre redevelopment plan. Shopmobility provides the use of manual and powered wheelchairs and scooters to help people with limited mobility or sight problems. Shopmobility wanted us to design a building that could provided equipment for people to help them get around the town to shop, visit attractions and use local facilities.
It is available for people of all ages, whether their disability is temporary or permanent, and is for residents and visitors alike. In addition to this, trained sighted guides are available for people with sight problems, either to accompany you on foot or to push you around the town in a wheelchair.
It was completed in July 2015.
