HIGHLANDS ROAD HOUSE
The site is on the main road connecting Rochdale and Bury to the west. The road is busy and it was decided at an early stage to build into the design an element of sound screening and sound attenuation. The method adopted for reducing sound ingress was to provide a service buffer within the plan at both floor levels. This buffer zone incorporated all the bathrooms, utility rooms and hallway
space. This buffer zone was recognized in the form of the building where this element was expressed as a flat roof element parked up against the main pitched roof body of the house. A high front wall was also provided in the design, hiding a secret entry space and reflecting pool. A double garage was also provided with a generous parking and turning area.
